Ultrasound therapy has become a cornerstone in modern cosmetic surgery, offering a myriad of exciting applications. As a practitioner in this field, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative impact ultrasound technology has had on cosmetic surgery.

From skin rejuvenation, scar tissue improvement, particularly around breast implants, and facilitating the healing process pre- and post-operatively, ultrasound plays a pivotal role in enhancing post surgery outcomes.

Its ability to accelerate healing and recovery is invaluable, ensuring patients experience optimal results and minimal downtime.   Talk to your plastic surgeon to see if this treatment would benefit you.

The primary healing properties of Ultrasound relates to the heat generated into the deeper tissues.

By inducing blood-vessel dilatation, improved blood flow and circulation can result in:

Pain Management: Ultrasound therapy can help manage post-surgical pain by promoting the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers. It can also reduce inflammation and swelling, which are common after surgery.

Promotion of Healing: Ultrasound therapy is believed to stimulate the production of collagen, a protein essential for tissue repair and wound healing. This can help promote faster healing of surgical incisions and reduce scar tissue formation.

Improved Circulation: Ultrasound therapy can increase blood flow to the affected area, which can help deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues, further aiding in the healing process.

Breakdown of Scar Tissue: Over time, scar tissue can form at the surgical site, potentially leading to stiffness and decreased range of motion. Ultrasound therapy may help break down scar tissue, allowing for better mobility and function.

 How Ultrasound Physical Therapy Works
The ultrasound machine works by sending an electric current through crystals found in the ultrasound probe — also known as the ultrasound wand. The probe vibrates, causing waves to travel through the skin to the body underneath. The waves transfer energy to the tissues to cause the desired effects. Ultrasound can also be focused on tissues deep within your body without affecting other tissues close to the surface.

Benefits of Ultrasound:

- reduction of  inflammation

- improved lymph flow

- muscle relaxation

-  pain relief

-less swelling and bruising

- softening of scar tissue ie. capsular contracture

Ultrasound therapy can be a valuable component of post-surgical rehabilitation. It is often used in conjunction with other modalities such as LED Red and Infrared Light Therapy as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

LED Light Therapy is proven to improve the appearance of both new and old scars.  It can also treat fine lines, wrinkles, firming, acne, pigmentation and pain. Red and Infrared Diodes stimulate collagen and elastin production, therefore stimulating new tissue growth to soften the look of a scar.    *Abnormal scarring, such as hypertrophic and keloid scars are more difficult to treat and may appear resistant to change.  When treating a scar, please keep in mind that no scar can ever be completely removed.

However, this protocol has shown to improve the appearance of both new and old scars, especially scars that are recessed in the skin leaving a pit such as an acne scar.
